May 17 th – 21st
Greetings, Hallsville, Texas!
This is Amber Daub, principal of Hallsville Junior High. Our teachers and students are busy bees
right now with a fast-paced spring well underway! Here’s what we’re working on between now
and June 3rd.
This
week is our final exam review week. Our focus this week is classroom instruction. Students
are in class, reviewing with their teachers the key concepts that they have learned this year. All of
this is in preparation for final exams, which will be administered May 24th through May 28th.
We know that our students will demonstrate high levels of mastery in all of their core classes. Teachers
will be using the data that we collect from these assessments to prepare for instruction in the 2010-2011 school year.
Also happening this
week, our District Champion UIL Teams will travel to Arlington to Six Flags on Wednesday, May 19 th.
On Thursday, May 20th, our choir directors and students will perform a spring concert at the high school
at 6:30 p.m.
On
Friday, May 21st, HJH Faculty and Staff will host the Class of 2014 and their families for High School Commitment
Day. This will be a very special day for our students and their families as they prepare to transition
to the high school campus.
The
following week, HJH teachers of advanced courses will meet with parents of students who qualify for advanced courses for the
2010-2011 school year. During this meeting, we will discuss the learning objectives and work ethic expectations
for these courses. Students will also be provided with the necessary materials to complete required summer
work. We are very excited about this opportunity to enrich our students through advanced courses.
Please note that Monday,
May 31st is a student and staff holiday. The last day of school (June 3rd) is an
early release day. Report cards will be mailed home with several important documents following the last
day of school.
May 24th –
28th
Greetings, Hallsville,
Texas! This is Amber Daub, principal of Hallsville Junior High. Here’s what we’re
working on between now and the first day of the 2010-2011 school year…
This week, our students are taking final exams in the core classes. Our teachers will review the results
of these tests to determine how to begin instruction in the next grade level. The data that we gather from
these tests is very important for us to continue to provide prescriptive support to our students. Parents,
thank you for taking time this week to help your children study and prepare for these exams.
HJH
teachers of advanced courses will meet with parents of students who qualify for advanced courses for the 2010-2011 school
year on Tuesday, June 1st at 3:30 p.m. During this meeting, we will discuss the learning objectives
and work ethic expectations for these courses. Students will also be provided with the necessary materials
to complete required summer work. We are very excited about this opportunity to enrich our students through
advanced courses. Parents, if your child qualifies for advance courses, you will receive
a letter in the mail about this meeting this week. Please note that Monday, May 31st is a student and staff holiday. The last
day of school (June 3rd) is an early release day. Report cards will be mailed home with several
important documents following the last day of school.
Hallsville Junior High requires summer school our students who have not successfully
completed up to two core classes and students who have not passed the Math or Reading TAKS test by the last day of school.
This summer school session will begin on Thursday, June 10th and will be held Monday through Thursday from
8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until Monday, June 28th. Students who are required to attend this session
in order to be considered for promotion will be notified by phone on Tuesday, June 8th. (TAKS
scores and end of year grades come in on that day, so we are not able to notify parents any earlier than that date.
The third administration of the TAKS test is at the end of June, so we are eager to begin the session as soon as possible
so that we may get students as prepared as possible for that test. Please remember that promotion to 9th
grade is contingent upon passing Math and Reading TAKS in 8th grade, so every day counts.)
HJH will begin summer office hours on Monday, June 7th. Our hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. Please call the office during these hours in the summer if you have any questions at all.
Our number is (903) 668-5990, extension 2501. You may also email me, Amber Daub, at adaub@hisd.com. We are here to help in any way we can.
Student registration will be held on August 12th, 13th,
and 14th. Yes, that’s a Saturday! We are holding both a week day evening
AND a Saturday registration session in addition to regular week day sessions this year to support our parents’ work
schedules. Parents will receive letters in the mail about specific times and necessary documents for registration
over the summer. Be on the look out for a letter from the school – Registration is an important day
for our kiddos as well as our entire campus.
The first day of school
is Monday, August 23rd! We’ll have information about this important day on our website,
on Bobcat Radio, and in the mail out that goes home this summer. The first day sets the tone for the entire
year – Parents, please work closely with your child to get the needed supplies and to get organized for Day One.
(The supply list will be mailed home with the report card after the last day of school.)
We’re looking way
ahead at HJH, but we all know that time flies! The first day of school will be here before we know it! Thank
you, Hallsville, Texas, for support our schools the way that you do. We so appreciate the important role
you play in educating our children right along side us!
Until next time, this is
Amber Daub, signing off from Hallsville Junior High!
